When you buy crickets from the shop they come in small boxes. As days pass you will start to notice dead crickets, this is a waste of food and money.
Here is how to maximize the lifetime of your crickets.

  1. Get yourself a storage container, drill 10-15 holes in the lid, so that the crickets can breath.
  2. Inside the container you will need to have hides and things for the crickets to climb on. As alot of crickets die from suffication when other crickets crawl all over another cricket. I use egg boxes as climbs and hides.
  3. For food the crickets will eat lots of things, but you want them healthy so when feeding them to your reptile they are getting all the nutrients from the crickets. I use sliced carrot, lettuce, potato and calcium.
  4. Crickets need water but can't have a bowl of water as they will drown. So get some toilet roll or kitchen roll, and place in the container, lightly mist the paper and the crickets will suck the water from there.
Now to keep the crickets healthy you need to keep the container clean, and that is how you keep crickets nice and nutritious for your reptiles.
